Something I have to remind myself of constantly...the art of DELEGATION.
Delegating work is so important! As a leader, at times it can be hard to delegate duties. This is mostly out of fear and lack of trust. One might reason that if a responsibility is delegated, they lose control of the outcome... but if you struggle with this like me, please keep these two things in mind:
(1) Delegation is important for efficiency. At the end of the day, you simply cannot do it all! Furthermore, there is no “I” in team! Delegation improves efficiency when it allows work to be transferred to people whose skills are a better match for the work. As team leader you are in charge of planning and strategizing the next steps for your team. When you delegate and allow your teammates to carry out most of the routine activities required of your team, it will allow you the time and effort needed to plan for your team’s next move.
(2) Delegation is also important for development. As a team leader, you possess important skills and abilities that you can pass on to your team members. The best way of doing this is to coach them in the new skills and then delegate tasks to them so that they may use those new skills.
